5 Reasons to Bring Back Peach Schnapps

August is National Peach month which reminded us of this: On an episode of The Walking Dead, badass Daryl (Norman Reedus) accompanies virtuous Beth (Emily Kinney) on her first booze run. When they score some schnapps, Daryl smashes the bottle, proclaiming, “Your first drink ain’t gonna be no peach schnapps.” Spoiler alert, they find moonshine—much classier. This scene was disturbing on multiple fronts, but mostly why waste a perfectly good bottle of schnapps during the apocalypse? Clearly, Daryl doesn’t know how good it can be in cocktails. Here, five delicious peach schnapps cocktails that Beth should try if she makes it out alive.

1. Machu Peachu

Aside from its delightfully punny name, this super simple cocktail is also very easy to make: just pour the schnapps over ice with pisco and orange juice.



1 1/2ounces pisco

1/2ounce peach schnapps

2 ounces fresh orange juice


Fill a white wine glass with ice. Add the pisco and peach schnapps, top with the orange juice and stir.

2. Honeycrisp Apple Sangria

A light, honeyed take on sangria, this appley punch spikes Chardonnay with peach schnapps, pisco and fresh fruit.


2 Honeycrisp apples

One 750-milliliter bottle unoaked Chardonnay

1/3 cup peach Schnapps

1/4 cup pisco

1/4 cup honey

2 oranges, 1 quartered

1 lemon, quartered

1 lime, quartered

2 cinnamon sticks

2 quarter-size slices of fresh ginger

3 cloves

2 tablespoons sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon


Club soda

Mint sprigs, for garnish


Peel, core and chop one of the apples. In a bowl, combine the Chardonnay, Schnapps, pisco and honey. Add the quartered orange, the lemon, lime, cinnamon sticks, the chopped apple, ginger and cloves and refrigerate at least 4 hours.

Strain the sangria into a pitcher. Peel, core and finely chop the remaining apple. Peel, section and chop the remaining orange. Mix the apple and orange in a bowl.

On a small plate, blend the sugar and cinnamon. Moisten the rims of wine glasses and dip in the cinnamon sugar to coat. Fill the glasses with ice. Pour in the sangria until three-quarters full. Top with a splash of club soda. Garnish with a spoonful of the chopped apple and orange and a mint sprig.

3. Peach Fizz

Here’s a fizzy taste of summer while warm weather still feels aeons away. Bonus: The mixers are easy to find. You just need schnapps, OJ, vodka and Sprite.


12 ounces orange vodka

8 ounces peach schnapps

8ounces fresh orange juice


8 ounces chilled Sprite


In a pitcher, combine the vodka, schnapps and orange juice. Cover and refrigerate until chilled, about 2 hours. Stir and pour into 8 ice-filled highball glasses. Top each drink with 1 ounce of Sprite.

4. Philly Fish House Punch

This potent, crowd-pleasing punch mixes tannic black tea with dark rum, brandy and peach schnapps. Served in an empty wine bottle, it’s perfect for parties.


3 tablespoons confectioners' sugar

6 1/2 ounces dark rum

4 ounces brandy

2 ounces peach schnapps

4 ounces cold brewed black tea

4 ounces fresh lemon juice

4 ounces cold water

Orange peels, for garnish


Set a funnel in a large, clean bottle that has a screw cap. Add the confectioners' sugar and tap it into the bottle. Add the rum, brandy, peach schnapps, black tea and lemon juice. Close the bottle and shake vigorously. Add the water and shake again. Seal and refrigerate the punch until cold. Serve the punch in the bottle, letting guests pour it into tumblers; garnish the drinks with orange peels.

5. Lemon Sorbet Martini

The perfect drink as dessert—it’s sweet, tart and indulgently creamy.



1 ounce vodka

1 ounce limoncello

1 1/2 teaspoons peach schnapps

1 ounce lemonade

1/2 teaspoon heavy cream

1 lemon wheel


Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add all of the ingredients except the lemon wheel and shake well. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with the lemon wheel.
